Today, I am excited to share this beautiful DIY Gift Idea that is perfect for the coffee lover in your life.  On Saturday, I shared this beautiful Stainless Steel Coffee Mug I created and shared information about the latest research that shows all the benefits of drinking coffee. That’s right! Coffee has many health benefits so it’s time to drink up and enjoy your favorite drink.

In that post, I shared this Stainless Steel Mug I created using Gold Metallic Outdoor Vinyl and Pucker Me Pink Craft Metal Sheet. I used the same patterned background and materials to create this coordinating tin container.  This piece is so elegant and is filled with a yummy, yet nutritious item you can put in your coffee to give you that extra protein you need.  Any idea what it is?

A common word you hear everywhere right now is “higher protein”.  There are many benefits to adding protein rich foods to your diet and since I have made this change in my home we have experienced its benefits.

During the past months, my 10 year old son was constantly hungry. No matter how much I fed him it was never enough and he always wanted more food.  As a result, I joined Beyond Fit Mom on a mission to find ways to feed my son that would help him feel full and more satisfied for longer periods of time.

At first, he was very resistant to the change. I realized he was turning to food as a source of comfort and not just for nourishment. It wasn’t an easy change for him. When he no longer woke up starving in the middle of the night, it all changed. Now he turns to food with protein for nourishment.

Did you know that eating protein helps balance out blood sugar swings? By pairing protein with complex carbohydrates you can slow down the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream and balance out your blood sugar levels.

For years I have had Hypoglycemia and for the first time I am being able to better manage it. All my meals include a complex carbohydrate and a protein. This combination allows me to make it through the morning which has always been the most difficult part of the day for me.

Do you know how much protein you should have every day? The general rule of thumb is 1 gram of protein per 1 lb of body weight. Until I started counting my protein intake, I never realized how much I didn’t eat a day.  It was a real eye opener for me and now I work at making sure I am getting as close as I can to my recommended amounts.

Have you ever seen these little cans in the coffee section at your local grocery store? After reading the label and all its additives, I decided it was time to discard of its content. I didn’t want to throw away these little tins, so I emptied them out and ran them through the dishwasher.

Once they were dry, I measured around the can and realized that Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets were not long enough and so I had to find a solution. To do this, I cut an additional piece of craft metal sheet and joined one edge to the other with 60 yard roll of 1/4″ Red Liner Tape.

Then, I cut out the background image with the Silhouette and Gold Metallic Outdoor Vinyl. Next, I weeded out the areas of vinyl I didn’t need and attached it to the Pucker Me Pink Craft Metal Sheet. Once the piece was assembled, I attached it to the container with 60 yard roll of 1/4″ Red Liner Tape.  Then, I wrapped Gold Satin Ribbon around the container and created a gift tag and attached it with a Wine Charm Hoop.

Recently, Kate Horney from Beyond Fit Mom shared a secret ingredient she uses in her coffee.  She puts one scoop of protein powder in her coffee and stirs it well until all the protein powder dissolves. Then, adds additional Stevia as needed to sweeten your coffee.  I finally gave this a try and I have to tell you it is DELICIOUS and helps you give you some additional protein.

I wanted to gift some protein powder as part of my Coffee Gift Ensemble and so I upcycled a tin container.  This small tin beautifully coordinates with the Stainless Steel Coffee Mug.  One scoop of this protein powder is equivalent to about 4 tablespoons so you can include instructions telling the recipient how much to add to their coffee. If that’s too much, you can also just add 2 tablespoons.

I love this and add it to my coffee everyday.  I feel like I am “cheating” and instead I am actually fueling my body with the needed nutrients to function properly. 🙂
