Are You Heavy-Handed?
Are You Heavy-Handed? I guess it all depends on what I am doing, but there is definitely one area in which I have a heavy hand. It is quite frustrating because no matter how light handed I try to be, I still seem to mess up my project every time. After much trial and error, I found a trick that helps those of us that are heavy-handed. Join me today and find out more about how to fix your heavy-handed problem.
My Biggest Frustration
I love crafting with designer series paper. Whether it’s used for cards, boxes, or mini scrapbooks, I love it. Beautiful designer series paper adds the perfect touch to all your crafting projects. Unfortunately, I am not always successful when working with Designer Series Paper.
I am heavy-handed and that makes it difficult to score the paper without tearing through it with the Paper Piercing Tool or Bone Folder. No matter how much I try I always rip the paper and have given up on making 3d projects with just Designer Series Paper.
Great Tool
The Simply Scored Tool is an amazing tool that makes scoring easy. You can use Designer Series Paper or card stock up to 12″ x 12″ and you can score every 1/8″. The bottom of base has non-marking and non-skid feet to secure it on your work area. This is a great feature for those of us who are heavy-handed.
Honestly, I haven’t used mine as much as I intended due to my heavy hand. Even with this amazing tool, I still seemed to rip my Designer Series Paper. Honestly, I had given up on being able to use the Simply Scored Tool.
The Solution
A few months ago, I was surfing the internet and found that I wasn’t the only one with this problem. Many crafters struggle with the same problem. Thankfully, I found a solution and it all begins with a roll of wax paper. I tried it out first and am happy to report it works.
1. Tear out a piece of wax paper and attach it along the top of the Designer Series Paper or Card Stock with Repositionable Tape.
2. Place the assembled piece on top of the Simply Scored Tool. Make sure it’s flush against the top and left hand side of the board.
3. Create score lines with the Stylus.
4. Remove wax paper and enjoy not having ripped Designer Series Paper.
Try It Out!
Then, come back and share your experience with us.
THANK YOU FOR THIS TIP I WILL TRY IT THIS AFTERNOON.
I ALWAYS USE THIS FOR DIES ON THE BIG SHOT GRAND CALIBUR AND THEY COME OUT PERFECTLY NO MATTER HOW INTRICATE THEY ARE
Wow… Sounds like just the perfect solution to me as well.. I tend to press too hard I think.. This will help. Thank you for this great advice.
Do you know if the same would work when embossing ? Some embossing folders tend to almost cut the cardstock. I often have to add tape to the backside just to re-inforce the cardstock/designer paper so it does’nt fall apart.. It’s only some embossing folders causing this problem…..
Thanks again for sharing the great advice !!!
Hugs from Spain….. Monica
Monica,
The process when embossing through the Big Shot would be different. I have had that problem, too. Stay tuned for a tutorial later this week to address this common issue all crafter’s face.

I have the same problem when scoring dsp. Am I correct that the waxed paper is on top of the dsp?
Debbie,
Yes, just attach the wax paper to the DSP with repositionable tape and then score as you normally would. I was really surprised to see it works. Give it a try and let us know your results. I am sure our readers would love to read your experience first hand.
Blessings.
